Cargo and ground handling deal sees Menzies grow at BUD

Menzies Aviation has strengthened its presence in Central Europe through a new partnership with Airport Service Budapest Zrt. (AS Budapest), following regulatory approval from the Hungarian Competition Authority.

Menzies Aviation has strengthened its presence in Central Europe through a new partnership with Airport Service Budapest Zrt. (AS Budapest), following regulatory approval from the Hungarian Competition Authority.

Under the agreement, AS Budapest’s ground handling and cargo operations at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD) have been transferred to Menzies Aviation. The deal also sees AS Budapest acquire a minority stake in Menzies Aviation Hungary Kft. and Menzies Aviation Cargo Hungary Kft., aligning its future with the global Menzies network, which spans more than 300 airports in 65 countries.

Employees from AS Budapest have joined Menzies’ local operations, ensuring continuity and the integration of local knowledge into Menzies’ growing presence in Hungary.

The combined operation will now handle more than 2,500 flights and over 12,000 tonnes of cargo per month at BUD. Services will cover the full ground handling and logistics spectrum, including passenger handling, baggage services, cargo processing, aircraft cleaning, de-icing, aircraft security and airside transport. The expanded team includes over 1,000 employees based at the airport.

The partnership marks a major step in Menzies’ growth strategy in the region and builds on recent infrastructure investment at BUD. In 2024, Menzies completed the expansion of its facility in Budapest Airport’s Cargo City, including a 3,000 sqm warehouse extension, a 1,500 sqm truck and GSE manoeuvring area, and 300 sqm of office and staff space.

Menzies says the partnership will enhance service quality, increase operational efficiency and unlock further opportunities to support airline partners at Hungary’s largest airport.
