Semmco has launched a newly enhanced version of its Walk Around Nitrogen Charge Kit, designed to streamline nitrogen top-ups on aircraft door systems and tyres while improving safety and operational efficiency on the ramp.
The portable kit is built to eliminate traditional manual handling risks and allow a single engineer to perform tasks that previously required two people.
Encased in a lightweight, rain-resistant carrying bag, the Walk Around Kit includes a robust regulator and relief valve assembly protected by a durable foam lining. A key feature is its 1.5-metre connection hose with a Shrader fitting for quick, easy attachment to door assist bottles, along with a gauge providing clear visibility of both cylinder and output pressures. The ON/OFF valve allows controlled gas flow to the regulator.
Designed with ergonomics and safety in mind, the complete kit – including the cylinder and bag – weighs just 6.5kg, significantly reducing strain for ground engineers and supporting safer solo operations during aircraft turnaround. It complies with US DoT, European, and UK safety regulations.
A cylinder charging connection point on the side of the valve body uses a dedicated adaptor to prevent incorrect refilling procedures or cross-contamination, while the kit can be configured for high- or low-pressure cylinders, depending on operator needs.
Will McOnie, managing director of the Semmco Group which is part of the HAKI Safety Group, said: “We designed the Walk Around Charging kit to provide a more efficient and safer way of completing a critical task during aircraft turnaround. What was once a two-person job can now be carried out safely by one engineer taking the Walk Around Kit to where it is needed.”
The updated kit supports the growing need for faster maintenance solutions that reduce aircraft ground time without compromising safety – a key priority as airlines seek to maximise operational performance and minimise delays.
