Cornwall Airport Newquay has installed CT X-ray screening technology, allowing passengers to keep liquids and electronics in their hand luggage – enabling faster security and processing. The scanners are from Rapiscan systems and can handle up to 500 passengers per hour.

In 2022 the UK government set a target for all airports to upgrade to the new scanners by 2024. However, delays in being able to acquire and install the equipment meant it was only the major hubs that were able to meet the deadline. As such, Cornwall Airport Newquay is one of the first regional airports in the nation to have the CT X-rays commissioned.

Amy Smith, Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay: “This is not just a new scanner – it’s a new standard. We’re investing in the future of regional air travel by delivering cutting-edge infrastructure that puts Cornwall ahead of the curve and right at the heart of global connectivity”.
