Qatar Airways has signed a strategic agreement with Barzan Holdings and Satys Aerospace to establish a cutting-edge widebody aircraft painting facility at Dukhan Air Base.

The new site will be the first widebody Satys Aerospace paint facility in the Middle East and will integrate next-generation digital painting technologies, including plans for robotic automation. It is designed to support a range of aircraft types, including commercial, VIP, and military jets.

The project will include two widebody paint hangars and a multipurpose space for light maintenance activities. Once operational, the facility is expected to serve as a regional hub for airline operators across the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent – reducing aircraft downtime by eliminating the need to send planes abroad for repainting or livery changes.

According to the partners, the facility will use eco-friendly paint systems and energy-efficient equipment, alongside advanced waste management practices.

The agreement forms part of a long-term collaboration between Qatar Airways, defence and security investment firm Barzan Holdings, and France-based Satys Aerospace. The partnership aims to advance Qatar’s aviation ecosystem through capability-building, technology transfer, and innovation.

“This initiative reflects the shared commitment of Qatar Airways and Barzan Holdings to support Qatar National Vision 2030 by building high-value industrial capabilities, creating skilled jobs and promoting Qatar as a global leader in aviation technology and services,” said the partners in a joint statement.

In addition to serving civil aviation, the facility is also configured for dual-use operations to meet military technical and safety specifications – supporting both the commercial and defence sectors in line with Qatar’s localisation goals.

Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group chief executive, said: “This partnership delivers strategic aviation infrastructure that serves both our national and regional ambitions.

“Together with Barzan Holdings and Satys, we are introducing breakthrough technologies by building local capabilities that will define the future of Qatar’s aerospace sector.

“This facility reflects our commitment to excellence, innovation, and empowering Qatari talent.”
