IndiGo has awarded Lufthansa Technik long-term contracts to support lease return and maintenance services for its fast-growing Airbus A320 family fleet.

The agreements cover base maintenance and single component maintenance for a substantial number of aircraft, reflecting the Indian airline’s need for scalable and flexible MRO support as it continues its aggressive fleet expansion.

The new contracts build on an established relationship between the two companies, and aim to provide comprehensive lease return assistance amid ongoing capacity and supply chain pressures.

Under the agreements, Lufthansa Technik will perform base maintenance at two of its global facilities – Lufthansa Technik Sofia in Bulgaria and Lufthansa Technik Philippines in Manila – ensuring coverage across multiple geographies. Single component maintenance will be handled at Lufthansa Technik’s headquarters workshop in Hamburg, Germany.

IndiGo, which operates one of the world’s largest fleets of Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, is currently adding nearly one new aircraft every week. The airline’s ambitious growth plan is supported by a mix of new deliveries and leased capacity, including wet- and damp-leased aircraft.

“In times of capacity shortfalls due to supply chain challenges, we are placing strong emphasis on leased aircraft,” said Parichay Datta, senior vice president engineering and maintenance at IndiGo. “These leases have proven invaluable in meeting demand and maintaining our strong market position. In this context, we are particularly excited to further expand our partnership with Lufthansa Technik, leveraging their expertise in aircraft lease return services.”

Johanna Koch, vice president corporate sales Southeast Asia and Indian Subcontinent at Lufthansa Technik, added: “IndiGo‘s growth trajectory and active fleet management pose unique operational challenges. We are pleased to support the Indian airline with our global capabilities, deep technical expertise and reliable turnaround performance. These contracts further strengthen our long-standing partnership and reflect the confidence IndiGo places in Lufthansa Technik as a trusted MRO provider.”
