Cathay launches ‘Gallery in the Skies’

Design studio JPA Design have announced a  ‘Gallery in the Skies’ for Cathay Pacific as part of a redesign of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet.

Customers entering the Business class cabin are greeted by a selection of artworks from artists with deep connections to Hong Kong. Each aircraft houses unique artwork and every piece offers a different perspective on nature.

JPA Design created elements including mounted frames for the artworks, featuring a shadow gap and illumination, creating the visually striking impression of the frames floating on the surface- akin to a real canvas in an art gallery.

Every artwork is paired with a placard that not only includes the standard details about the piece, but also a QR code. Accessible through on-board Wi-FI, this code enables passengers to delve deeper into the artist’s background and learn more about the artwork.
